Laparo

The Virtual reality (VR) Training Simulator is designed to train the surgeon in acquiring vital skills required to perform Laparoscopic Surgery. It incorporates more realistic examples than the currently used methods of practicing on cadavers and dummy objects. The set of exercises developed in the virtual world is designed to provide a smooth transition to actual surgery. The simulator provides the surgeon an environment similar in abstraction to the ones encountered in actual surgical practices.

Exercises provided in the simulator  is designed to train the surgeon in acquiring the- familiarity  movements of the surgical tool as a result of fulcrum effect, perceive the depth of object, clipping, diathermy and cyst puncturing. This will result in acquiring a perfect hand and eye co-ordination on the part of the surgeon.
Functional frame work of the LSS consists of the following Modules,

  • Mechanical trainer- is a physical box with pelvic trainer, surgical tool and the mechanisms which control the motion of the surgical tool with in confined workspace.

  • Electronic module- it has optical sensors to sense the movement, signal conditioners and FPGA assembly. It interacts with PC through extended parallel port(EPP)

  • Software module- the device drivers enables the data flow between the hardware and the application. The application consists of exercises devised to enable the surgeons to develop their skills in order to perform laparoscopic surgery.
